Wand Carving
Wood and stoneworking ideas for a beginner?
I'm a newbie in the world of wood and stone carving, but I have picked up on it fairly easily. I recently invested in a dremel, flexshaft attachment and diamond burrs. I have tried my hand at carving a maple walking stick and even made a Harry Potter wand for my niece, both of which turned out beautifully. I have yet to experiment with stone, I intend to pick up soapstone and alabaster next time I travel to the city.
My intention with the hobby is to create novelty items (like the wand) and jewelry, but I'd like ideas on other projects I could do to hone my craft. Ideally, they'd be things that people would be interested in purchasing if done well.
Any ideas? 
how about wood/stone weaponry? You could start out with something simple like a shield and that would give you the creativity to make designs on it.
