What is the difference between how fountain soft drinks and bottled soft drinks are made?

I worked in the food industry and know that fountain drinks mix carbonated water and the syrup when you press the button. Are bottled soft drinks made the same way before packaging? Why do some people prefer fountain soft drinks to bottled soft drinks aside from fewer preservatives found in fountain drinks? Thanks

Fountain drinks are cheaper. Canning / bottling adds way more to the cost than a paper cup does. I don't know as anyone prefers to drink a fountain drink vs. a can, but I suspect some prefer the price.
