Soft Musk
My dog rolled in some animal poop. It didn't smell like a dogs...?
It was very strong and was dulled by tomato juice. My mom thought it get rid of the smell but it is still there. It's a very strong musk with a tar-like mask. The poop was dark, small and soft. We think it could be raccoons. We want to know how to get rid of it.
You can try the procedure for removal of skunk smell. It works for poop smells too. It takes a little work, but the smell will go away.
First, you bathe the dog with Dawn dish soap. It has to be Dawn. Don't substitute with other soaps, or it wont work.
Secondly, mix up the following concoction:
15oz of hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup dawn dish soap
1/4 cup baking soda
3. Sponge the mixture onto the dog and let it sit on the dog for 3~5 minutes. Its normal for the dog to try and shake it all off...but try to prevent that by draping a damp/wet towel over the dog's back. You can even soak the towel in its own mixture, so it doesn't soak up the mixture off of the dog. Once the mixture has been on the dog for 3~5 minutes...rinse it all off.
4. Sponge the mixture on the dog again, let it sit for 3~5 minutes. If you need more of the mixture...make another batch or two. After it sits on the dog for the 3~5 minutes, rinse it all off well...making sure that its all gone.
That should do it...but you can repeat as necessary.
