Victoria Gardens - A relaxing getaway in the heart of the city

Victoria Gardens provides a haven of rest and relaxation in the heart of the bustling city of Mumbai. Also known as Jijamata Udyaan, the Gardens are home to a botanical garden, a zoo and a museum. This well laid out sanctuary was opened to the public in 1861 covering an expansive area of 48 acres. A large clock tower characterizing the Italian Renaissance architectural style greets visitors at the entrance of the Gardens. Located in the Byculla area of the city, this lush site attracts streams of locals and tourists looking to enjoy a relaxing day out.

Victoria Gardens comprises of a beautiful botanical garden. Home to some of Mumbai's oldest trees, the garden showcases lovely specimens of both common and rare plant species. Many of these plants aid in the study and research of botany, whilst adding a verdant visual appeal to the site. If you are visiting with children, be sure to explore Victoria Garden's zoo. This city zoo is the habitat of a wide variety of animals and birds, some of which are classified as endangered species. In here, visitors can enjoy an exciting elephant back ride before moving onto explore the rest of the Gardens.

The famous Victoria and Albert Museum is also located within the lush environs of Victoria Gardens. A tribute to the city's historical, industrial and agricultural beginnings, the Museum exhibits a fascinating collection of archaeological artefacts and information. To the east of the Museum lies a gigantic statue of an elephant that is reputed to have been brought from the Elephant Caves. All this and more awaits you at Mumbai's famous Victoria Gardens!
