Please in your own words define the difference between "smell", "aroma" and "scent"?

they don't seem interchangeable to me ....how do you use them? ....and add "a perfume" ....which also seems to be more than the substance used to scent our bodies ...
the French use "parfumee" to mean flavored or scented ..and the Germans "aromatisiert" for the same ...
