Have you ever just lost yourself in New Eden, total immersion, forgetting time and everything else around you? Focusing on the moment at hand. Maybe as a soldier in an epic fleet battle. Weeks of escalating fights and smaller raids, all leading to this moment. The moment of truth. The second right before your screen fills up with hundreds of red dots, the jump in, palms are sweaty, you can barely feel your legs. Second is over. Hell breaks loose.
Fleet commanders are giving out orders as you try to stay alive in this universal sea of madness. Enemies and friends alike are all dying around you, explosions and missiles covering the screen. You unload another round of Tech 2 projectiles at the called target. Poof, another one hits the ground. Your mailbox is blinking with delight, you got yourself yet a kill.
You can see missiles approaching your Tempest. As missiles hit your shield with full effect, you realize that your the primary target. It's all about reflexes, as your battle hardened Minmatar structural mishmash of a ship starts to take heavy armor damage, you manage to warp to the nearest safe spot. Another second and you had been a fallen hero.Safe for now. You can still hear the explosions and death screams.
Armor is repaired, time to jump in again. Arriving at the hot spot you can see a couple of Dreadnoughts trying to kill of an enemy carrier. The carrier is obviously drawing her last breath. Just as she is about to be turned into space dust, a thundering roar can be heard from the distance. As the Carrier is exploding right in front of your eyes, a monstrous shape is catching your hind eye.
Silence, this is the calm before the storm. The few remaining enemies have left the battlefield, left is a behemoth, a god of war: a Nyx Titan. Open fire! The commander's orders are clear. Frigates, Dreadnoughts; everyone turns their attention to the monster that just arrived. This does not feel right, you active all your weapons, hell is unleashed. The Nyx fires back, a Dreadnought quickly meets his maker, the pilot does not even have a chance. Stay and fight! Your Tempest is now overloaded and dealing out maximum damage, barely nudging the Nyx's shield.
*Doomsday Device activated*. Space is disappearing under your feet, God has spoken. The Nyx's fury is released in full power. Around you, peoples ships are turning into atoms. Corpses are filling out the blanks. Your ship starts to shake, your internal organs are being ripped out of your body. You are going down. Darkness fills your retina.
The battle for homeland has been lost, the entire alliance fleet has been defeated and your safe dwelling is no more. The bittersweet aftermath is hitting your senses as you wake up in a clone bay somewhere far far from your former home.
Just for a moment, you where a hero. An unstoppable killing machine, part of something big.
This is what Eve Online is all about, loosing yourself to the moment...
