The new flying rules...what are they?
Okay here’s the deal. I haven’t flown in over a year, and I’m going on a trip next month. I have some health/skin problems that I am treating with vitamin and mineral supplements, topical treatments, and special non-irritant make-up. So apparently, no liquids of 3 oz. or more…so, does that mean that the bottle size has to be 3 oz. or smaller too? Also, will they give me trouble about my supplements? I don’t have a prescription for taking these vitamins, and I keep them in a pill box. Should I transfer them to a zip lock bag? Can I bring a carry-on and put my vitamins in it??? Can I put my stuff like Eye Shadow, powder, in a carry-on? Only serious answers please!
I can help you out here. I work for TSA as a screener and here's the real deal. The liquids ban is for any liquid,paste, cream, gels, and lotions over the size of 3.4 ounces. This includes eye drops, fingernail polish ,liquid eyeliner, mascara, lipgloss, nose spray, hand lotion, gel deodorant, toothpaste, hair gel,shampoo, conditioner, aerosols just to name a few. As a good rule of thumb, if you don't need it on the plane put it in your checked bag. If you must carry it on have it in a QUART size ziplock bag that is closeable. The quantities are based on what the container says not the amount in the container. Another words a four ounce container of something that is half full will not be allowed. Medications are an exception but must be declared to TSA as well as baby itmes and diabetic supply. Vitamins are not a liquid and are not a problem. Eye shadow and powder are okay just not anything that is a liquid, gel, paste ,cream, or lotion. Also, when you get to the concourse and are submitting your bags for xray please take out your quart size ziplock bag and run it seperate from your carry-on and this should avoid lengthy bag checks for liquids.
