Neil Patel - Making a Mark with Internet Business Ideas
Internet start-up ventures are always deemed as good business ideas because they seem easy to make and launch, and they are – if you have the brains and the guts to start one. Such is the case with Neil Patel, an internet entrepreneur based in Orange County, California. Neil is credited with successful sites such as Crazy Egg, a website that offers tools on how visitors interact with websites and KISSmetrics, an easy to use and implement analytics solution that understands the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and identifying where visitors usually drop off.
Neil grew up around a family of entrepreneurs. He was selling CDs he burned himself, bootleg movies and cable black boxes which he have purchased on Ebay and sold to classmates and their parents. New business ideas seem to pop up all the time. When Patel was known as the kid who sold pirated stuffs, he decided to make a career change as there is no long term career in what he was doing . He got into reselling automotive parts, worked in the park services department at Knott's Berry Farm and had also been a vacuum cleaner agent for Quality Systems. All of this eventually led him to one of the best business ideas he created where he most succeeded in at such a young age – the internet.
For his first internet website venture, he created a job board called Advice Monkey. He hired internet marketing firms to market his website, but they provided little results. Neil decided to learn internet marketing himself and made his site popular but never entirely successful as the site was not setup to accept credit card transactions. Through his sister's consistent feedback regarding her employer's success (she worked for an Oracle consultant locally) and unending encouragement, Neil decided to open up his own Oracle consulting company.
He took up college courses in an online university curriculum as he had a goal of finishing up college in 2.5 years. After making a speech on how search engines work in his Speech 101 class, one of the people in his class asked him if he wanted to consult Elpac Electronics on their internet marketing strategy. This made him interested enough and got new business ideas to open up an internet marketing company and proceeded to invest in a few other companies before he realized that investing really wasn't for him. The rest is now internet history.
Currently, Neil and his business partner maintain Crazy Egg and KISSmetrics. Patel never seem to run out of new business ideas. He has several investments in the form of real estate, .com companies, venture capital funds, and the stock market. At a young age, he was able to help his parents with their finances which make everything worth it for Patel. With his drive to succeed, the entrepreneurial spirit in Neil will live on as he continues to develop business ideas one after the other.
