Yves Saint Laurent was one of the most influential fashion designers in the past century and the company founded by of the same name continues to be an important part of the industry. In addition to clothing, YSL also produces makeup, skincare and fragrances.
One of the most popular fragrances from a designer label ever to be created is the YSL Opium, a spicy oriental perfume that cause somewhat of a furor due to its controversial name and advertising.
The Yves Saint Laurent Opium features mandarin orange, clove, plum, pepper, coriander and bay leaf as its top notes. Middle notes are lily of the valley, jasmine, carnation, rose, cinnamon, peach and orris root.
Base notes consist of vetiver, tolu, patchouli, sandalwood, cedar, myrrh, amber, incense, musk, labdanum, benzoin and castoreum.
The YSL Opium perfume introduced a unique spicy scent at a time when oriental fragrances were relatively uncommon, and that in addition to its somewhat racy marketing led to its success.
Other popular Yves Saint Laurent fragrances are Belle D'opium, Parisienne, Elle, Opium, Paris D'Yves Saint Laurent, Cinema, Baby Doll, Yvresse, Y and Ysl Young Sexy Lovely.
The Y Yves Saint Laurent perfume is one of the most pleasing perfumes currently available. While it means different things to different women, it is almost universally liked. Top notes consist of galbanum, gardenia, peach and honeysuckle.
Middle notes are rose, jasmine, orris, hyacinth and ylang-ylang while base notes are oakmoss, amber, patchouli, civet, vetiver and benzoin. A very good example of fruity chypre perfumes, the Y fragrance was launched in 1964 and is still in production today.
Another popular YSL fragrance is the Baby Doll fragrance, which was launched in 2000. A Long Lasting rose fragrance that has a fruity top note, Baby Doll is not the sort of girly airheaded perfume you might think it is from its name.
Rather it is mature, feminine and perfect for women of all ages, the bottle is unstable and some might find that annoying but the long lasting Baby Doll perfume itself is a delight.
Notes include blackcurrant, orange, apple and pineapple. Middle notes are lily of the valley, rose, freesia and heliotrope while base notes are tonka, cedar, sandal and vanilla.
