The avocado is a single seeded berry.
A berry is a non-opening (indehiscent) fleshy fruit with seeds embedded in the flesh. It develops from a flower with a superior ovary.
Kiwi fruit are berries with all its seeds embedded in its flesh.

The avocado is not a drupe because it does not have a stony endocarp (the pit or stone) covering the seed.
If you split a peach pit the seed lies inside so a peach is a fleshy drupe.
A drupe whether dry or fleshy is a single seeded fruit with a thin exocarp (skin), a fleshy or fibrous mesocarp, and a stony endocarp (the pit or stone) covering the seed, e.g. olive, cherry, peach, almond, pecan & coconut.
We eat the mesocarp of the peach and the seed of the almond. The fibrous mesocarp of the almond is removed before it goes to market.
Pome is a fleshy fruit with a thin skin. The flesh (pericarp) is not formed from the ovary but from another part of the plant, the thalamus (for vessel) at the end of the stem.
The seeds are contained in stiff walled chambers formed by the ovary carpels. The apple is a pome where the the 5 chambered centre of the fruit is the true ovary.
