The harvest moon bathes in autumn's galore,
Casting its town on the town of Willett.
"An auspicious sign!" cried the Earl Salvatore.
So rites were hurriedly prepared and dates set,
And on the third night of the waning moon, the townspeople met.
Terra Mater was enshrined in bond fire and feast;
Mist shrouded the scene in enigmatic air.
At the center, a funeral pyre held the sacrificial beast,
Around it, the savages joked and laughed without a care;
Several pompous men sought to chase down a hare.
"Tis time of the divine!" the leader called,
And one by one, the people came to order.
Archaic hymns were sang and ambrosia poured,
The spirits came upon the town's border,
And sprinkled blessings on every hearth.
The townspeople hollered with mirth,
After all, nor heaven nor hell, tis Earth.
I really like it! The rhythm is almost perfect, so is the rhyme. But the third verse, second line falters ever so slightly, but maybe it's just the way I'm reading it.
I like the ending, it's a good wrap up.
