Benefits of Green Tea
The popularity of green tea has risen over the recent years, as people are increasingly looking at alternative forms of treatment and therapy such as ayurveda and acupuncture. Drinking green tea cuts the risk of different types of cancer, lowers blood pressure and is an effective cure for obesity. A regular intake of green tea keeps your skin glowing and your calories in check.
The long-term health benefits of green tea also make it an effective anti-ageing weapon, preventing or at least reducing the risks of age-related medical conditions. In fact, it offers benefits on some many levels, that quite a sizeable percentage of the young crowd as well as older folks have started drinking green tea on a daily basis. Even queen of talk shows and media mogul Oprah Winfrey is a green-tea drinking proponent as are models and actresses.
What exactly is green tea?
One of the least processed and nutritionally-rich teas, green tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Originally from China, there are different varieties of green tea available. Green tea is an acquired taste- you can try adding some mint or make a tasty concoction of your choice. Make sure to brew the tea for no longer than two minutes or you will end up with a bitter drink. Also avoid adding too much sugar or honey and keep it as simple as possible.
Health benefits of drinking green tea
Green tea contains about 30% of catechins, which are said to have high healing potential. Drinking green tea in moderate quantities 2-3 times a day can prevent heart diseases and also cut risks of cancer. Rich in EGCG (epigallocatechilgallate), a powerful antioxidant, green tea kills destructive cancer cells without affecting the other healthy body tissues. Abnormal blood clots in wounds are also effectively prevented by EGCG, which is why drinking green tea is advised by doctors.
It also has a soothing effect on the central nervous system, keeping blood pressure levels in check and reducing overall stress. Green tea intake on a regular basis is also said to prevent neurological conditions such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's to a large extent. Studies have also shown that green tea lowers LDL cholesterol, responsible for causing heart diseases, effectively.
Green tea gives the skin a clear, youthful complexion and a damp green tea bag also acts as an astringent for sunburns, skin inflammations, due to its tannin content. Sipping green tea on a regular basis also helps you maintain a slim figure. You can also take years off your face and body by incorporating green tea in your daily dietary regime. As green tea is completely natural, there are no side effects from consuming it on a regular basis.
