how to get gloss paint off of gold?
Hiya, My husband was painting the door today with gloss white paint, the B and Q uk basic one, and when he washed his brush it just went everywhere, and left a coating on his wedding ring, which is 18carat gold. I washed it and washed it and although you cant see white anymore its still streaky and has a residue ( as do his hands, and my sink now). Im sure ive washed gloss paint brushes before and hasnt been such a disaster! but its his wedding ring im most worried about. Any idea hoe to get this residue/streakiness off without damaging the gold???? Thanks in advance!!
Have you tried turpentine? But that tends to be ineffective once the paint has dried overnight.
If that doesn't work, there is also aircraft paint stripper, which is acid-based, so use rubber gloves when handling it (the yellow ones that you get in the store for doing dishes will work nicely). Afterward, wash the ring in cold water to get rid of any acid residue.
