When do our children stop eating like cavemen, and actually focus on being neat?
My son is nineteen months old and takes pleasure in squishing and squashing his food, still. When do they focus on table manners more? Is that something I should be teaching him more strictly now or should I let him explore the different textures still? I would of thought he had outgrown this a little more by now.

By all means, he should still be exploring and enjoying his food, but you can discourage his playing with it by serving it
one tablespoon at a time. They'll never focus on manners, just keep reinforcing the "pleases" and "thank yous" and he'll get it (eventually). When it seems like he's had enough, simply take the food away so that he doesn't have a chance to play with it.
