How should we use our eyes properly for close work?

As we know, long-time close work without proper use of our eyes will cause us to have some eye problems. After a certain time of close work, our eye stress is increased, and if eye stress often keeps in a high level, some eye problems will bother us. No doubt that people have to face close work, such as reading, writing, knitting and working on the computers. So the problem is how to use our eyes properly while doing close work. The following will list out some tips in the hope that they will give people some helps to maintain good vision while doing close work.

First, don't just concentrate on a single point, but shift our eyes constantly from one point to another instead. Shifting is very important for us as during shifting, our eyes stress is lower than staring at one point. There is also an eye shifting exercise that many office people take and benefit from. By taking eye shifting exercises, our eye flexibility also strengthen.

Second, our eyes should fix on a central part of an object, instead of seeing the whole object at once. If we like, we can take central fixation exercises everyday to improve our focusing ability, which is mainly done by focusing on one point near and then transfer to another far.

Reading, writing, and working by computer are unavoidable for some people. When we do these close works, how should we use our eyes properly? The following tips will give you answers.

While reading, in order to see the text better and more clearly, we should glance glide between the lines. The advantage of glancing like this is it can make the contrast between black letter and white space more obvious, and finally contribute to clearer reading.

While writing, our glance should follow the moving tip of our pen, instead of the words we have written. If we glance at the written words, our eyes are opt for staring, which will increase our eye stress.

If we have to work on computers everyday, we should bear in mind the following tips: First, move our eyes from work for every 10 minutes. We can look around the office, or look at the trees in far distance, which will enable our eyes to have some rests. Second, after working an hour, we need to keep our eyes away from computer for 3 to 5 minutes to do something else. If we like, we can also take some simple eye exercises. Last but not least, when we need to think over a problem, please don't stare at the computer or a book, we can close our eyes to think instead.
