All you need to know about scar creams
Silicone in scar treatment can be in the form of a scars cream, gel or silicone sheeting. Usually, a combination of these three throughout the day can be used for best results. The scar cream formula should be such that it penetrates deep into the skin's subcutaneous layers and treats the scar tissue damage from inside. The formula contains a number of other ingredients apart from silicone to stimulate growth of new cells and to improve the appearance of the scar. This scar treatment formula is useful on both hypertrophic and keloid scars, which may be caused by a number of factors. These scars could be the result of trauma, surgery, burns, laser resurfacing or something as simple as acne.
Silicone scar treatment is also effective in reducing stretch marks and lightening brown ageing spots. Scars cream is usually applied 3 to 4 times in a day and is gently massaged over the scar for better absorption. This cream is particularly effective when used with silicone gel or sheeting. Silicone gels are usually more expensive as compared to scar creams, but at times are more effective and easier to use. For instance, if you want to use silicone treatment for prominent areas like the face or awkward areas like the joints, silicone gel will be a better alternative as compared to a cream. It has a non-sticky formula, which can be quickly applied and forms an invisible occlusive covering.
Silicone gel for scar treatment is especially useful for treating acne scars. It is also very beneficial in reducing the appearance of stretch marks as compared to a scars cream. Scar treatment gels contain liquid silicone in the form of Dimethicone Crosspolymer and Cyclomethicone. They also contain other important scar treatment ingredients like Vitamin C, Emu Oil and Squalene.
Silicone sheeting is the most affordable type of scar treatment products. This sheeting is available in a variety of shapes and sizes suitable for use of different anatomical locations. A combination of scar cream and silicone occlusive sheeting is known to have lead to improved scar appearance by almost 82 percent!
