is my video card defective?

I just purchased a gtx 470 from an upgrade of gtx 260 and i think it might be defective but im not sure. when ever i play bad company 2 or just cause 2 or empire total war i see constant colors flickering and screen tearing during ONLY gameplay. BUT i can play all my other games fine including Metro 2033, modern warfare 2, splintercell conviction, tf2, left 4 dead 2, GTA 4...and others. Is this video card defective?.......my processor is a intell q6700 quad 2.66ghz.....

This sounds like a driver problem. A driver is a piece of software that sits between Windows and your video card. It translates between what the languages of the video card and that of Windows. For some reason, those games send it over the edge and cause it to stop translating properly. The best way to fix this is to update your drivers.

To do this:

1. Go to http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx?lang=en-us
2. Select your card model and Windows version
3. Download and run the installer. Restart the PC when prompted.

If the card was a lemon, it is unlikely your computer would even get past POST (Power On Self-Test), let alone load a game.
