Skin Texture and Complexion
Skin texture or skin complexion depends on collagen and elastin present in the skin. Collagen and elastin are proteins responsible for maintaining skin elasticity, tone, and texture. There presence in the body is dependent on diet, age, cosmetic treatment undertaken, hormonal changes, skin care products used, and overall health. To achieve smooth skin and radiance, its important to know which of these factors is important and is affecting the other. As such to improve the skin texture its important to identify the culprits responsible for less-than-perfect skin.
Blotchy, Uneven Skin Complexion
Blotchy and uneven skin is a result of skin being affected by wind, arid climate, dirt, pollution, chemicals, smoking, and ultraviolet radiation. All these affect natural collagen and elastin fiber of skin causing it to appear dry, rough, and wrinkled. Age often is the prime reason for wrinkles, spots, blotch, rough skin texture, fine lines, and an uneven skin complexion. Though natural aging process cant be stopped its possible to reduce outward signs of aging by opting for a regimen of skin care and protection.
Skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and allergy also contribute to skin blotchiness and uneven skin texture. Excessive inflammation, itchiness, dryness is also responsible for skin blotchiness and uneven skin texture.
Get Smooth Skin Complexion
Cleanse:– Skin free of oil and debris looks and feels better. Cleansing normal skin with plain soap and water is enough while for a dry/oily skin a suitable cleanser must be used.
Exfoliate:– Exfoliation helps to get rid of excess oil and dirt from upper layer of skin, reducing chances of roughness and breakouts. A gentle facial scrub is fine, but if the skin is rough or uneven, micro-dermabrasion, even chemical peeling smoothens' the skin and brightens complexion.
Moisturize:– A acne-prone or oily skin needs to be hydrated using a moisturizer. Its important to protect the skin by applying a sunscreen or moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher when going out.
Lifestyle:- Regular exercises increase blood circulation and supplies extra oxygen to the skin. Drinking 8 glasses of water a day also improves skin texture and appearance. A balanced diet rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids mostly found in fortified eggs, flax seeds, fish, walnuts, and leafy green vegetables keeps the skin smooth and healthy.
Deterioration of Complexion and Texture
Skin darkening is a problem caused by over-absorption of melanin, the natural color pigment by the upper skin layer. Melanin pigment is produced in the basal cell layer and absorbed by dead cells on skin surface. Diminished blood circulation, as well as less active oil and sweat glands and degeneration of body tissues also results in deteriorating skin complexion resulting in dry skin and wrinkles.
Home Care to Improve Skin Complexion
Cleansing
Instead of using soap use gram flour (equal green gram and bengal gram) and mix it with milk. Apply it on the body and rinse with water.
Skin Lightening
Apply one half of lime on the face gently. Squeeze other half in a cup of water, then mix salt and drink it to lighten the skin.
Blackheads and Acne Blemise
Make a paste of turmeric rhizome with mustard seeds and apply gently on the acne spots and wash them with water.
Home Care to Improve Skin Texture
Moisturize Oily Skin
Use a mix of oatmeal and sandalwood scrub to cleanse oily skin. Follow it with 1 tsp of vinegar in glass of water; add slices of raw potato and put them on the face for 15 minutes. This smoothens and moistens skin texture.
Moisturize Dry Skin
Cleanse skin with a soft soap, and then wash it with rose water. Add some drops of vitamin/amla oil with 1 tsp glycerine and apply on the face and rinse it off after 20 minutes.
Facial for Smooth Texture
Apply a mix of egg with lemon juice for 30 minutes, then rinse it off with clear water.
Chapped Skin Texture Mask
Apply a mask made of refined linseed oil (4 ounce), tincture benzoin (1/4th ounce) and rose water (8 ounce) twice a day.
Prevent Damage
To prevent damage to skin complexion avoid perfumed lipstick alkaline creams, bleaching and lightening creams that contain mercury, alkaline soaps and detergents, or pricking acne pustules and pimples.
