Ultramarine – The Versatile Blue Coloring Agent for Industrial and Domestic Applications
One of the most complicated of all the mineral pigments, ultramarine is basically a mineralized limestone containing lazurite, a blue colored mineral. The characteristic blue color of ultramarine is due to the S3- radical anion, which has an unpaired electron.
Ultramarine Blue Pigments are absolutely safe, eco friendly and non hazardous with many uses. There are several shades of blue in ultramarine, which is determined by the various synthetic manufacturing processes. Ultramarine can be effectively used in dyeing plastic and is also used in making printing ink, paint, cosmetic due to it color richness and stability in when compared to other organic pigments. Ultramarine Blue has a clean blue shade with slight red tinge, which makes it different from the conventional blue pigments
Ultramarine is used as a blue coloring agent in plastic resins. It is used as an optical whitener on fabric, rubber and paper and is the coloring agent in printing inks. It is the main component in many industrial paints, stoving finishes and power coatings. Ultramarine is used in all types of whitening agents and white paints apart from decorative glass paints and emulsions as well.
Some of the advantages of ultramarine include its excellent heat stability up to 350°C and non bleeding nature. Excellent light fastness and distortion free finish in poly olefins. Ultramarine is also used in Cement and Construction Industry, Soaps & Detergents, Toiletries & Cosmetics Industry, ink and Artists' Colors Industry.
Ultramarine is used as whitening agent to neutralize yellowish shades. Its excellent qualities and richness make it a popular choice in painting and engraving. Ultramarine is also commonly used in laundry and white washing as well. Ultramarine Blue is extremely safe, environmental friendly & non-hazardous blue pigment with various applications worldwide.
