how should i care for my lip piercing?
Okay i have so many different things instructed for me to do. and i have anti bacterial soap, alcohol free mouthwash and h2ocean. yeah i have a tooth brush and tooth paste. but i don't know if i should keep using the soap and just using h2ocean. how to use h2ocean (do i have to move my lip jewelery or spray on inside etc.) so help if you can.
It takes about 6-8 weeks for your piercing to heal. It will be swollen for about 2-3 days. Ok with that said, let's begin :]
Cleaning: Clean the outside with Neosporin and a Q-Tip. Just dab it on the pierced area. Clean the inside using a salt rinse. You can get H2Ocean Rinse at a Hot Topic for $10 for a 8oz bottle. I got a 16oz. bottle for the same price at H2Ocean.com. Just gargle it for a minute or two a couple times a day and you should be fine. DO NOT USE MOUTHWASH. Though that's a cheap and affordable method of cleaning the inside, most people don't realize that kills the germs needed to heal. Rinsing with mouthwash took my piercing longer to heal.
To buy new lip rings, I found that BodyArtForms.com and PainfulPleasures.com have nice rings at an affordable price. They are waay cheaper than the rings they sell at the mall!
To clean metal rings, soak it in alcohol for a few minutes than rinse with water. To clean acrylic jewelry, simply rinse with mild soap and water. DO NOT USE ALCOHOL ON ACRYLIC JEWELRY! Alcohol causes the acrylic to easily shatter.
Most people are pierced with a 16gauge and some of the cute jewelry on the sites are 14gauge. If you decide to stretch your hole a little bigger, do keep in mind that there will be pain. I stretched my hole to a 14gauge and I was bleeding and it was quite painful. My lip was swollen for two days.
While healing, you will get lymph. But do not be alarmed! It's a sign that your body is healing, so it's a good thing. Sometimes yellow lymph means infection but not all the time. Just watch out. If it smells, then you do have an infection. Just clean the area very well and you'll have a lower chance of getting an infection.
