What does Blossom Goodchild have to gain?
Since she has set a date for a UFO to appear October 14 she will be criticized and ridiculed if she is wrong. She really has nothing to gain from this and it could ruin her reputation as you have already said.
People declare things all the time when they believe seomthing to be true. We have seen that in ALL religions and beliefs. If nothing happens, does that make them wrong in all of their beliefs? Absolutely not. One prediction that was incorrect means nothing.
She also isn't the only one who predicted this to happen. She is the only one to have given an exact date, I think.
