Base Diminishes
Are folks who worry about debt to China worried about exactly the wrong thing?
As I understand it, China uses its trade surplus to buy dollars and dollar based assets (e.g. Treasuries) to push up the value of the US dollar relative to the Yuan so that the Yuan is undervalued, and this drives more demand for their exports, and it diminishes demand for US exports.
Shouldn't we just hope they stop doing this so that our exports can recover, and Americans can go back to making things again?
