Are these foods complemetary of each other or not?
I am hosting my dad's 50th birthday party. I am serving 3 different main dishes (spaghetti, taco bar, & homemade meatloaf). Each dish is served with different sides. The dessert bar confuses me though. My dad loves sweets so I thought that would be the focus of the party (a huge selection of his favorites). He loves any kind of dessert so I do not know what to serve. I want to do an ice cream bar, but I am afraid it will be too much if I do cakes, pies, tarts, and other little desserts. What should I do for the dessert bar?
People expect cake at a birthday party, but not all those other options. It makes the traditional "birthday" cake seem unimportant, when it should be the star. Limits the other choice to the ice cream bar, which are very popular. Forget the pies and tarts, but maybe cookies.
Your choices for the main course seem rather "beefy." You should have a chicken or fish entree for those who don't want beef. Instead of tacos, make chicken enchiladas...actually easier, less fuss.
