The earliest distillation of Attar was mentioned in the Hindu Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita. The Harshacahaitra, written in 7th century A.D. in Northern India mentions use of fragrant agarwood oil. In the later years, it is said, that it was Mumtaz Mahal, wife of Shahjahan, who first made perfume with rose petals. Today, one can find perfumes in various forms.
